Time in Colorado

Well two months later I am finally getting around to a little post about our trip to Colorado. We had a great time. I was very pleasently suprised at how well Simon did for the 10+ hour car ride, he napped some but mostly played contently with his cousin Ryan. The inconsolable crying didn't begin until the last 20 min. of our trip while driving up the mountain into Estes Park.

Chillaxin'

While in Estes Park we visited friends at Harvest House where my mom lived for awhile. Melissa and I each lived there with her for a time too. It was great to get to visit with all the women and see all the good things that are still going on up there. We also did the tourist thing and walked around all the shops downtown. I think the most unique thing we did was go to the Estes Ark and Teddy Bear Factory. Not somewherre we spent a lot of time but was cool to take the boys to see this giant ark like the one Noah built.

Pretty cool!

The next leg of our journey was to Aurora where my gramma Rose and uncle Blaine live. We stayed with them and they got to meet Simon for the first time. Simon was not really sure what to think of all these new people so he became very clingy and didn't want anybody but mommy. That made things a little rough and stressful for me. The big outing while there was going to the Denver Zoo we all had a good time and got to see some pretty cool animals.

Pots and pans provided the entertainment at gramma's house.
Rhino was not very happy they put him outside by himself.
Simon after the monkey house.
Sleepy lion, I don't blame him I was exausted too.

To round out our trip we stayed with my Aunt Susan and did a family birthday celebration. It was great to get to catch up with everyone!

Stairs provided hours of entertainment.

Practicing for the big birthday party when we get home.

Last but not least we made a trip to Castle Rock for a little outlet shopping, no trip to Colorado is complete without shopping!

All in all it was a great trip but I was ready to be home with my honey and sleeping in my own bed.

Party Time!!!

Party day was very exciting, I had been planning this for the last 4 months or so and I was super excited to see it all come together. I lucked out in finding a lot of the things I need without having to order much online which was nice because I'm a very visual person and want to physically see how things coordinate.

Here are some of the decorations

One Year as a Family

July 21, 2009 we became a family. Before I thought of Saul and I as a couple because it was just the two of us. Now with the addition of Simon I feel that we are truely our own little family unit. I still remember the day so clearly, arriving at the hospital at 6am to be induced 5 days post due. Pitocin started by 7am and the waiting game began. Family began to arrive about 9am and a few friends came by as well. Epidural recieved by 11:30 (I did not feel the need to be a hero and go aunatural) and the waiting continued. By 6:30pm Simon was getting restless in there so it was agreed that the safest option was to have a c-section. 7:32pm Simon Joseph Hernandez made his first apperance in this great big world and my world was forever changed. I remember hearing him cry and thinking "I'm a mom, that is my little boy, it is my job from now on to protect and care for him". Until it happens to you you can't imagine how one tiny person can change your life forever and turn you from a "couple" to a "family".

Meeting Simon for the first time.

Family pics at one year.

Since last time...

Well I have been told that I have been slacking in the blog department so I guess it is time to get caught up, so here is an overview of what has been going on to keep me so busy the last month or so.
I offically have a one year old! How crazy is that? I swear it feels like yesterday we came home with our sweet little bundle of joy and my life changed forever. Simon and I had a great vacation with my mom, sister, and Ryan. It was great to get to see old friends and catch up with family we haven't seen in a long time. Simon's birthday party went off without a hitch, we had a great turn out and enjoyed celebrating out little man. We also had the chance to go as a family to hang out on Lake Travis for a weekend for some much needed R&R.
My goal over the next week will be to post a little more detail and some pics of our fun times this past month for all to enjoy. Hopefully Simon will cooperate.

Summer: Busy time of year

I have always loved the fall and winter for obvious reasons; college football, snow, skiing, ect. But for the second year in a row I have looked foreward to summertime. Last year my son was due in July, our first and I just couldn't wait to meet the little man. Being big and pregnant in the middle of summer was not very fun but the end result was wonderful and well worth it. This year I was even more excited about summer so the little man and I could spend some time in the great outdoors, ie; the pool at the town club (that's about as "outdoors" as this girl gets)! The other thing I am really excited about is planning and excuting his first birthday party. Yes I know this party is really all for me since he won't remember anything that is not captured on film, but its exciting for this momma all the same.

I have been planning things for a while and finally began excuting things on my list in the last month or so. Yesterday I finished making the invitations, only took me about 8 hours total to get them done. Most of the party goods have been purchaced, or at least found and ordered. Still need to finish some of the decor and finalize the menu, but with a llittle over a month  to go I think I am doing pretty good.

The last four weeks  has made me realize how much I cherish the time that Simon spends at mothers day out! Our program takes a break for 4 weeks after school gets out and another break the last 3 weeks before school starts again, so it has been Simon and mommy every day. I love my son I really do but "mommy time" is esential to sanity! Tuesday Summer Fun Days start and I cannot wait, I really think Simon misses his playtime with the other kids too. Our one saving grace has been afternoons at the pool. Simon LOVES the water! He is way to brave for my comfort zone, but I guess being a "water dog" runs in the family.

Guess I will wrap up for now, finish my wine, and hit the sack for some much needed rest.

My sweet sweet boy!

Life is Getting Away From Me

It has been way to long since I posted anything! Blogging like just about every other hobby of mine takes a backseat to life, and lately life has been busy. Simon is now nine months old, he weighs almost 25 lbs and is 30.25 inches long. He is also on ear infection number 5 since december which means we are getting ear tubes on June the 8th. Other noteables since my last post, he is crawling all over the house and if I walk towards him when he is getting to close to somewhere he is not supposed to be he moves faster. As of yesterday he is pulling up on things all around the house, guess I will be looking for furniature corner cusions and moving all the breakables to higher shelves. Oh and how could I forget his first 2 teeth actually broke thru today!! Finally all that drooling is paying off. It is so amazing to watch how he is growing and changing every day.
Tarabeth took some 9 month photos for me, here are a few of my favorites. Thanks Tarabeth!

Another First

Eight and a half months, where has all the time gone. I truely does seem like just yesterday we brought his little lanky self home. We were nervous, excited, happy, scared, and more in love with each other and our new little boy than you can imagine. That first night turned into two, into 2 weeks, 2 months, and he is now almost 9 months old. The next thing I know he will be a year old (which I am already planning the party to celebrate, chalk it up to my tyea A everything always planned out to a T personality) and walking and talking.

We have had yet another first in the last week, actually a few firsts. Simon has started forward movement! He hasen't quite mastered the hand and knee coordination but he is moving in a forward direction by pushing off on his toes. I was so excited to get to see him do this. Yes I know that it only means my life is going to get more crazy, always watching where he goes and wondering what he will get into next, but it is so exciting to watch him grow and change.

Our other first this week was Simon's first Easter, or as I like to refer to it, his first Resurrection Sunday! He made it thru church and after enjoyed pulling apart his easter basket. It was pretty cute to watch him play with the plastic blue grass at the bottom of the basket. Here are a few pics of Simon and his basket.

He seems to be feeling better from his ear infection which is good. I absolutely hate it when he is not feeling well, it just breaks my heart.

Until next time...
