One Year as a Family

July 21, 2009 we became a family. Before I thought of Saul and I as a couple because it was just the two of us. Now with the addition of Simon I feel that we are truely our own little family unit. I still remember the day so clearly, arriving at the hospital at 6am to be induced 5 days post due. Pitocin started by 7am and the waiting game began. Family began to arrive about 9am and a few friends came by as well. Epidural recieved by 11:30 (I did not feel the need to be a hero and go aunatural) and the waiting continued. By 6:30pm Simon was getting restless in there so it was agreed that the safest option was to have a c-section. 7:32pm Simon Joseph Hernandez made his first apperance in this great big world and my world was forever changed. I remember hearing him cry and thinking "I'm a mom, that is my little boy, it is my job from now on to protect and care for him". Until it happens to you you can't imagine how one tiny person can change your life forever and turn you from a "couple" to a "family".
